How to use Magisk Manager & boot.img to root Android

After selecting the image format it will bring up the dialogue box.
Select the boot file format, .img or .img.tar (mostly for Samsung phones).

Wow!! You guys are good - this worked like a charm. I have a fairly new gov't phone. It's Chinese MTK brand Ultra J8 with Android Go and could find nothing in the way of any stock firmware or any info whatsoever and I looked for days. Luckily I found Hovatek during that search. I'm a total novice and started with your firmware backup guide using WWrMTK and SP Flash and once I had that I used this guide and man I am stoked!!! Thank you guys for all this work. I got ROOT baby!!!!! Thanks again you guys rock!

Yes, there's always a risk of brick in rooting, so it is advisable you take backup of your phone's firmware before rooting.

No, userdata is not affected
