The Tecno L9 Plus (e.g L9Plus-H8011A1-N-170210V206) is an MT6580 powered phone running on Android 7 (Nougat)
How to root the Tecno L9 Plus
- Dump your firmware in scatter format using Miracle Box @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-13347.html
- Download SuperSU 2.78 @ https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=457084094631642692 and save to both phone storage and SD card
- Create a new folder named Hovatek on your PC
- Copy preloader.bin from your Miracle Box backup into the Hovatek folder
- Download Philz for Tecno L9 Plus ported by Team Hovatek @ https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4S-Z72...ZOMmc/view
- Philz for Tecno L9Plus-H8011A1-N-170411V289 ported by Team Hovatek @ https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4S-Z7...045SGtJdkE
- Philz for Tecno L9plus-H8011A1-N-170315V248 ported by Team Hovatek @ https://mega.nz/#!JDonRb5T!qcqKlHS3BdCNT...K1s-cSOPII
- Philz for Tecno L9plus-H8011A-N-170722V393 ported by Team Hovatek @ https://mega.nz/#!9LoUgYpC!tNlrib0mwSClk...DFKNdnBho8
- Copy the Philz recovery.bin and scatter file from the Philz zip file downloaded above into the Hovatek folder, making peloader.bin, scatter file and recovery.bin (Philz) in the folder
- Flash the preloader.bin and recovery.bin using Miracle Box @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-14106.html
- Boot the phone into recovery mode (Vol up + Power) after flashing
- In Philz recovery, you use the Volume buttons to navigate and Power button to select
- Select Install Zip
- Navigate to the location of the SuperSU2.78.zip on the SD Card and select it
- Wait till flashing is complete
- If you are prompted to fix root, select No
- Reboot the phone normally
- Confirm Root by installing and running Root Checker @ https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai...heck&hl=en

the procedure used doesn't require using fastboot, as such unlocking the bootloader isnt necessary.

NO if you follow the procedure in the guide properly, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't backup your important files before proceeding.
