If you try rooting this device (itel it1408-W404-20160902) using kingroot and for some unknown reasons it doesn't work, then you can root using this method below
How do I root an Itel it1408 Android phone?
* Download TWRP for Itel it1408 ported by Team Hovatek at https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4S-Z7...HJHOGllUUE
* Setup ADB and Fastboot on the PC using the guide at https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-588.html
* Extract and copy the TWRP recovery.img into the same folder as the fastboot.exe and adb.exe
* Download SuperSU 2.79.zip at https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4S-Z7...m9yUGZuMlU
* Copy SuperSU.zip to both the phone’s SD card and internal storage
* Connect the phone to the PC via USB cord while switched On and boot it into Fastboot by typing the command below (press Enter after typing each command)

adb reboot bootloader* When the phone enters Fastboot, flash the TWRP recovery image to the phone by typing the command below then pressing Enter

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img* Once recovery is flashed in fastboot,
* Power off the device, then boot to recovery mode using the technique @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-2167.html
* In TWRP recovery, tap Install
* Navigate to the location of the SuperSU2.79.zip and select it
* Swipe to confirm flashing of SuperSU.zip and wait till flashing is complete
* Reboot the phone normally
* Confirm Root by installing and running Root Checker @ https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai...heck&hl=en
