vbmeta flash bootloop on gsi flashed phone
vbmeta flash bootloop on gsi flashed phone
(25-11-2021, 07:58 AM)Ahmed Jubayer Recently I flashed GSI on my Unisoc phone which is Itel L6006...
Steps I used to flash:-
• Flashed the firmware
• Booted into fastbootd (using key combination, first recovery then fastbootd)
• Deleted Product Partition to free some space for system (fastboot delete-logical-partition product)
• Flashed GSI (fastboot flash -S 100M system system.img)
• Factory Reseted (from recovery)
• Then booted to system (from recovery)
Then it booted and everything is working just fine...but then I did some test and found a huge issue....
If I flash signed vbmeta for boot partition it gives me bootloop, I can confirm the vbmeta img is OK because I flashed it on my older system to root my phone with signed magisk-patched boot.img, and it worked just fine...
I tried flashing signed vbmeta to get root then flashing stock vbmeta then flashing system, it try to reboot into system but blink a black screen for 1 sec then reboot to fastboot mode
So, I really need to flash vbmeta after flashing GSI, to get root then to flash twrp
I did some research and found on some YouTube video teaching how to flash GSI in fastboot mode they first flashed empty vbmeta and empty vbmeta_system to disable DM_verify, but I didn't flashed any vbmeta BEFORE flashing GSI
Help me out
(26-11-2021, 11:19 AM)hovatek From the rooting technique for your model, you don't tamper with vbmeta at all. You just leave it and sign the magisk patched boot using the 4096 pem.
There's no need to touch vbmeta when flashing GSIs either
(26-11-2021, 11:27 AM)Ahmed Jubayer Your reply is unclear
In simple words
I just want to root my phone after flashing GSI, that's why I flashed vbmeta because I can't flash boot image without flashing vbmeta for boot partition and also same goes for recovery partition..
Is there any other method except this?
I tested flashing stock vbmeta(not signed) it works, but signed for any partition doesn't work.
should I test with stock signed vbmeta? I do want to format my data now
(27-11-2021, 09:19 AM)hovatek I think I'll just let you answer this one yourself.1. I rooted with signed magiek-patched boot image
1. How did you root the phone?
2. How did you flash the GSI?
3. Did you lose root after flashing the GSI?
4. Did you wipe data after flashing the GSI?
(27-11-2021, 09:42 AM)Ahmed Jubayer What should I do now to be able to flash images without any problem?
(29-11-2021, 09:25 AM)hovatekDo I need to sign the blank vbmeta?(27-11-2021, 09:42 AM)Ahmed Jubayer What should I do now to be able to flash images without any problem?
With reference to how the phone got rooted, it doesn't seem to support tampering with the vbmeta,
so if you wish to root, you sign the patched boot.img using the 4096 pem, vbmeta isn't touched at all. Same applies to recovery .
You could try flashing a blank vbmeta just to see if that makes a difference

(29-11-2021, 06:42 PM)Ahmed Jubayer I tried many things like flashing boot flashing vbmeta nothing is working, all I can do now is I can flash stock images
I tried flashing empty vbmeta but it get stuck in writing vbmeta and boot image give me an error that the boot partition is smaller than image so I flashed with research tool/ also tried unpacked and repacked boot inage, both reboots to fastboot when I reboot to system and custom vbmeta gets stuck in boot screen, please check these files: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AvLIgHfSU5F7hEywqeVr6QInQbQF
(30-11-2021, 09:18 AM)hovatek Its time to retrace your steps.and how can I do that? I can't flash custom signed vbmeta so how can I flash boot?
First, root the phone
