I've used the TWRP porter in the past with some success and sometimes not. I can't seem to find the v1.6 version mentioned in the OP.

I tried v1.4 to port a Magisk rooted Melrose S9 (not the S9 Plus) recovery but the phone just boot loops if you try to go to the TWRP recovery.
This phone is on Android 7.0 and apparently has the MTK 6735 chipset.

From what I have seen of the Miracle Box backup I have of this phone it has the exact same file size for the stock recovery.bin as it does for the boot.bin.
I've never been able to even get into the stock recovery and due to the file sizes being identical to the boot I don't think the phone ever had
a recovery. I think the recovery is just a copy of boot.bin renamed. I use ROM Toolbox's rebooter to boot into recovery since the phone buttons won't
get you there but as I said it just boot loops. I can get out of the boot loop easy enough by holding down the power key.

This is a cheap phone but I'm taking it on as a challenge to get TWRP working on it. Any suggestions much appreciated.

There's nothing wrong in both recovery and boot having the same size. You also need to consider dmverity. Anyway, create a thread for this. It might require a manual port

Hi,
Since twrp porter v.1.7a does NOT work on my Oukitel wp5-pro (Android 10), I wonder if we can expect anytime soon a porter v.1.8 with improved capabilities.
Thank you

Did you attempt booting into recovery using button combo or was it adb? which?

Hi,
I was looking through the replies and I see no mention of this, so I ask:
Does this work for Samsung phones?
Specifically, I have Samsung Galaxy A10S (SM-A107F) which has a Mediatek Helio P22 (MT6762), released with Android 9 and upgraded to Android 10.

Our TWRP porters are built for Generic Mediatek, Unisoc / Spreadtrum and Qualcomm devices. Samsung as a brand introduces quite a lot of customizations but you could give it a shot and give us feedback
