Title:
MT6580 / alps A17mini – Unknown Baseband, Missing IMEI and Band Mode Query Failed – Working Identical Reference Device Available
Message:
Hello,
I need expert technical assistance with an unusual MediaTek MT6580 device problem.
Device information:
Model identification: alps A17mini
Chipset: MediaTek MT6580
Android version: 8.1
The device previously worked normally on the cellular network.
Current symptoms:
No cellular network service.
IMEI is missing/unknown.
Baseband information is missing/unknown.
Engineering Mode → Band Mode returns: Query Supported Mode Failed Query Current Mode Failed
Wi-Fi works normally.
Bluetooth works normally.
GPS works normally.
Android boots and operates normally.
I have an identical fully working A17mini device for comparison.
On the working device, the Baseband is detected normally and starts with:
MOLY.WR8.W1449.MD.WG.MP.V303.7...
The working and faulty devices appear to have matching MT6580 platform, Android version, kernel/build information and hardware specifications.
I have already performed extensive side-by-side comparisons between the working and faulty devices, including Device Info HW, Engineering Mode, Band Mode, System Updater and Stock Recovery.
Important limitation:
The identical working reference device cannot be physically shipped or taken outside its current location. However, I can perform requested tests on it and provide screenshots and technical information remotely.
The faulty device has Stock Recovery options including:
Apply update from SD card
Therefore, I am particularly interested in determining:
Is this most likely a missing/corrupted Modem/Baseband firmware problem?
Could the modem-related firmware be restored using a correctly prepared SD-card update package?
Could this be NVRAM/NVDATA corruption, or is the Band Mode query failure more consistent with the modem subsystem failing to initialize?
Which modem-related partitions/files should be compared between the working and faulty MT6580 devices?
What additional non-destructive tests can I perform on both devices to distinguish Software/Firmware failure from Baseband/Modem hardware failure?
I am not looking for random IMEI-changing methods or generic factory-reset instructions.
My goal is to correctly diagnose and restore the original cellular modem functionality of the faulty device using its legitimate device information.
I have a detailed technical report with comparison screenshots and can provide any additional information requested by an experienced MediaTek technician.
I am also looking for a professional company, specialized repair center, or experienced technician anywhere in the world who has real expertise with this specific Chinese A17 Mini phone and MediaTek/MOLY baseband problems. If this issue cannot be solved remotely, please recommend a company or expert that I can contact directly.
Thank you.

Hello,
..
Thank you.

Baseband/IMEI issues mean you either formatted the phone while flashing or flashed an incompatible partition.
Since you have a working identical device, backup its firmware using WWR @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-21970.html
You should backup both the device with baseband issues and the working device (tag the backups appropriately so you don't mix them up).
You could then flash the backup of the working device to the one with baseband issues. That should at least fix the baseband then you can write IMEI using Modem Meta @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-31577.html
