This guide will explain how to use WWR_MTK v2.51 to backup or dump a Mediatek device's firmware. If you're using v2.30 then follow our WWR_MTK v2.30 guide.

Requirements

  • Download Wwr_MTK tool
  • Download template.zip @ [ Login to download]  & extract template.ini into wwr folder, replacing the existing file (this will add recent chipset types to the list in step 5 in the guide below)
  • Download SP flash tool
  • Download Notepad++
  • Download and Install Vcom Preloader Driver
  • Windows PC
  • MTK Phone

Steps to use WWR v2.51 + SP Flash tool to backup Mediatek firmware


Follow the steps below to use Wwr_MTK v2.51 tool + SP flash tool to backup Mediatek firmware

  1. Launch WWR

  2. You should see the WWR dashboard

  3. Click Auto Mode

  4. Click Generate empty scatter file

  5. Select your device chipset type from the list [use the app @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-13054.html to verify your chipset] and if your chipset is not listed then scroll to the end of the list and select "Add" to add your chipset type

  6. Choose your device's memory type

  7. Click Create and save as

  8. Open the folder you wish to save the scatter file then click Save

  9. You should see the scatter.txt file

  10. Launch SP Flash tool

  11. You should see the SP flash tool dashboard

  12. Click Choose in front of Scatter-loading file

  13. Select the scatter file from WWR

  14. Click Readback

  15. Highlight and remove all entries

  16. Click Add

  17. Double-click the new entry, a window will popup

  18. Give it a name then click Save (this will be the raw preloader)

  19. Open the scatter file in Notepad++

  20. Go back to SP flash tool and change the region to EMMC_BOOT_1

  21. Set Start Address to 0x0

  22. Copy the partition_size for preloader from the scatter file and paste it under length

  23. Click OK

  24. Click readback then connect the device while powered off

  25. You should get success once the readback is completed

  26. Confirm that you see the file in the destination folder

  27. Repeat the process with the same values except region will be EMMC_USER (this will be pgpt)

  28. You should get a success message after readback

  29. Confirm that both files are in the same folder

  30. Go back the WWR and click Select file

  31. Choose the first dump (raw preloader)

  32. Wait while it loads

  33. You may click To extract preloader and save as.. if you wish to get the final preloader

  34. Click Select file and choose the second dump (pgpt)

  35. Scroll to the table of sections tab to view all partitions

  36. For a full dump, your length value would be the Full volume of gpt on the right

  37. To exclude certain partitions, your length value would the the start address of the partition below the last one you wish to dump e.g right-clicking and copying the start address for system will stop the dump at vbmeta and exclude system downwards

  38. Do a dump with region and EMMC-USER, start address as 0x0 and your length value then click OK

  39. You should get a success message after readback

  40. Confirm that you see the full dump

  41. Click Select file in WWR

  42. Select the full dump and click Open

  43. Click Auto mode

  44. Click Start autopilot

  45. Tick Identify platform (information from LK, binary search) then click Start process

  46. Wait while it loads

  47. Ignore the There is no information about CPU in the LK partition error

  48. If you're uncertain of what to click then choose Cut the ROM as it is

  49. Choose the destination folder for the cut ROM

  50. Wait while the ROM gets cut

  51. Once done, you should find the dump in the folder you chose

Hi, I did everything like the tutorial and everything went fine. But when I flashed the rom it boots to fastboot.

I get the miss match error scatter file type emmc ; media type ufs. I have a scatter file from a download that looks simmilar to the one generated with wwr mtk. Any suggestions?

I have infinix hot 10 x682c mt6768 device, 
my device is secure boot enabled , so i cant perform backup as this tutorial..
my question is: how to disable secure boot permanently on this device , so i dont have to use tool such as mtk sec disable, nor mtc auth bypass every time when need to use sp flashtool for flashing or backup..
