This guide will explain how to choose the right firmware for your samsung device

AP & BL version

  1. First, you'd need to either boot to either recovery mode or download mode on your device
  2. The AP/PDA version should be displayed at the top of your screen e.g in the screenshot below of Samsung SM-A025u in recovery mode. You can search for a matching firmware using the AP version

  3. Also take note of the binary version usually indicated as U* or S*. In the above screenshot, it's binary version 1 (i.e u1)
  4. You should always download same firmware for the same binary version or higher as some devices don't support downgrading
  5. On some devices, you might find some useful information such as model, carrier, even binary version in download mode
  6. Below is a screenshot of Samsung A51 in download mode showing model, carrier and binary version

How to find the real device model after flashing a wrong firmware

If you managed to get to this point, then there's no means of checking your model software wise. You'll either need to disassemble the device and check if it's indicated anywhere on the hardware parts OR if you are not the owner then ask the owner for information regarding the device model

How to choose between CSC & HOME_CSC when flashing?

Incase you're wondering, CSC stands for Country Specific (Product) Code. It allows the device to automatically config settings and install app based on your region

  1. CSC: if you intend to perform a clean flash then you should choose CSC file, as it'll perform a factory reset after flashing the firmware
  2. HOME_CSC: you should choose the HOME_CSC file, if you wish to retain your data and settings when flashing the stock firmware.
