backup firmware from your device ; use wwr mtk @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-21970.html along with the DA @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-23243.html
unlock bootloader, disable dm_verity (flash empty vbmeta) and root using magisk @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-21427.html

When backing up my rom of Tecno spark 4 kc8 android 10, should I unlock the bootloader first or just go ahead with the process?

backup first then unlock bootloader
