This is a step by step guide on how to generate Checksum.ini for a Mediatek (MTK) based stock rom / firmware. Checksum.ini is contained in some firmware and serves to verify the integrity (hasn't been tampered with) of the firmware.

Why would I need a checksum.ini file?

Depending on how you got the rom you intend to flash and the tool you intend to use, the ROM may not contain a checksum file and some tools such as SP multidownload tool require one in order to begin flashing.

Requirements

CheckSum_Gen.zip @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-32635.html
Windows PC

If you get any error while trying to generating a checksum using Checksum_Gen tool then we have a list of Checksum_Gen tool errors to help you resolve such error messages

How to Generate checksum.ini for an MTK ROM / firmware

Follow the steps below to generate checksum.ini for an MTK scatter file rom

Extract the contents of CheckSum_Gen.zip into the folder containing the scatter file rom
Launch CheckSum_Gen.exe and wait while the tool generates the checksum file
Once successful, you'll get the success message "Check Sum Write to ini File Finished"
Press any key to exit the tool and the checksum.ini will be placed in the same folder

Important Notice

For tools like SP flash tool, you can simply remove the checksum file if you run into checksum errors

due to the size of system.img , a fairly long time. if you can't wait you should consider using a different tool that doesn't require checksum to flash e.g SP flash tool
