Itel announces the Itel A32F

Less than two months after Itel announced its first Qualcomm Snapdragon phone (Itel S42), it has launched the Itel A32F which is an Android Oreo (Go Edition) powered device. If any brand needs Go Edition, Itel is definitely that brand. This is because they primarily target the entry level market and what better way to make entry level smartphones attractive than to ship with the second latest Android version?

Itel A32F core specs

  • Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition)
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB ROM
  • 2050 mAH battery
  • 2 MP front camera
  • 5 MP back camera
  • 5″ display
  • 1.3 GHz quad-core Mediatek processor

Right from the word GO, I knew Itel would go big on Android Oreo (Go Edition) because the markets they primarily operate in (India & Africa) are notorious for being price conscious. This will see much better penetration for Itel but I fear that people who encounter Go Edition phones might think they were built to do heavy stuff (and end up greatly disappointed) rather than optimized to make the most of their low end specs.

After reading a few comments online, its not surprising that some people insult Itel ‘for releasing such a rubbish phone’ despite the low ₦20,500 price tag. Had I not a Tech. background, I might have reasoned alike but knowing the idea behind the Go Edition project, its a welcome development that Itel has embraced it.

To the best of my knowledge, Itel has never rolled out an Android version update on any of its models neither does this model have project treble support so I won’t exactly hold my breath for regular updates but its a good step all the same; Security is meeting Price in the middle.

What’s your take on the Itel A32F? Would you buy it?
