Meaning of "Calling" in Programming

Hi everyone,
please help me out, i often used to get confused with Thread/processes/functions referred to as "calling" and sometimes i dont used to get my expected result. Does a "Calling" Thread/processes/function means the one the call is made from or the one the call is made to?
please clarify me.....!!!
