LG G8x Android 12 disabling vbmeta gets locked out by secure start-up

LG G8x G850UM ATT crossflashed to CAN android 12 40c ; need to fix VOLTE and for that need to disable vbmeta , when I try fastboot or EDL to flash the empty vbmeta, the phone goes in to secure log in asking for password, does not matter what I set I can not go past that. was able to recover by flasing backup of my vbmeta_a. tried searching for solution, would appreciate any help

tried Qfil for direct flash of vbmeta
also tried
fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta_a vbmeta.img using engineering ABL_a.bin

if I set a pin or pattern , it still asks me for password that I d not have

on a telegram group I saw this:

which makes me think I can use my actual vbmeta fackup to flash instead of the fake vbmeta, to avoid the lock

disabling vbmeta isn't the same as flashing dm-verity. Dm-verity may have changed but I'm not aware of it. To change vbmeta you need to use fastboot (engineering abl), and the command is like this: fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta_a blank_vbmeta.img

You don't need the vbmeta_a_blank anymore, just reflash the vbmeta that's already there, back to it's partition with the above fastboot command. What this accomplishes is the nt-code fix you make to cust path mapping will still be there after you reboot.
