This guide will explain how to enter and exit DFU model on an iPhone and iPad. DFU stands for Device Firmware Update. It's also referred to as Recovery Mode. An iPhone or iPad must be booted into DFU to flash the firmware.

How to enter DFU on iPhone 4 / 4S / 5 / 5S / 5c / 6 / 6S


  1. Power off the device
  2. Hold down the Home button
  3. Connect to PC via cable while holding the Home button
  4. Keep holding the Home button till it enters DFU mode


How to exit DFU Mode


To get your iPhone or iPad out of DFU, long-press the power button till it reboots
