Does this mean this tool would not work if device was updated to latest OS? I have Galaxy M40 shipped with Android 9, now updated to Android 11. Its kernel sources are also open sourced by Samsung. Will this tool be useful to port TWRP if I root my device and pull required files?

simply check the kernel version (settings > about phone) on the android 11 device and select accordingly on the tool
in order to root, you'll need to download stock firmware for your exact build and from the same firmware, you'll get stock recovery.img (in essence, you don't necessarily need to root first in order to pull "required files")

Cool, I found the exact stock firmware for M40. Will try porting using the tool after I download the firmware. One more doubt, the firmware download page does not mention kernel version. Is there any possibility that it will have different kernel than on my device? If yes, how do I get the kernel version of the downloaded firmware, any command or so...?

Launched the tool selected Qualcomm > Android 11, it shown some status and later failed with error > Something went wrong, failed to port recovery.
log.txt:
Recovery image unpack failed
Port files failed to copy
Output folder is empty..packing recovery failed.

settings > about phone > software version
you should find the kernel version and build number of your device in the path above and as for the firmware, just ensure that it's the same build and baseband version as you have on the device

Launched the tool selected Qualcomm > Android 11, it shown some status and later failed with error > Something went wrong, failed to port recovery.

check and ensure that your AV isn't tampering or blocking the tool, re-extract a fresh copy then you may either add it to exclusion or temp. disable until you're done porting
