Good day,

Please my applications on my windows OS just stop opening. It happened a week ago i tried my effort but i just had to reset the PC, now it happened this morning. Here are screenshots of the error it gave when i opened some apps.

Ever since i reset the pc, it has been ok and then i noticed in the process of installing a game this morning it started this whole issue again. I have no idea if it was coincidence.

Kindly find attachment below

something seems to be tampering with your OS. i hope you have an antivirus program, you should do a full scan

try this fixes by checking and modifying registry editor
i.e click start menu and type registry editor

for the lnk files, navigate to
Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile
then create a new "string" value named "IsShortcut" OR if it doesn't work, goto settings > apps then reset all microsoft apps including store

for the exe files such as ms word, navigate to
Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe
confirm that the "default string value" reads exefile, if not then modify it and type exefile
then navigate to
Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile
confirm that the "default string value" reads Application, if not then modify it and type Application
then navigate to
Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command
confirm that the "default string value" reads "%1" %*, if not then modify it and type "%1" %*

for task manager, navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\taskmgr.exe
then delete debugger OR backup taskmgr.exe then delete the entire directory

NOTE
you should always backup the registry items you are about to modify before modifying them
you need to restart your pc after making the changes
if you have a second pc there, you could look through the registry paths i indicated above and try to mirror the contents to your pc's registry

Thanks, it worked.
I couldn't find "lnkfile" and "taskmgr.exe" in their respective subdirectories.

All i did to was check the rest and they were correct except for "Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command", the default string value was check attachment S2 . It was then changed to what was advised, rebooted and it was fixed.

Thanks once again

...

do you have access to another windows pc? and check the system32 folder if you'll actually find the taskmgr executable, be sure to enable viewing hidden and system files too. if the file is missing then it can't be fixed using registry, consider doing a system restore instead

for the lnk, try installing this reg file @ [ Login to download] ; see if it fixes the lnk error
