1. what command prompt can i use to know which of my boot partitions is the active one (i.e boot_a or boot_b)

2. can you flash boot.img to any of the boot partitions with no problems

1. use the command "fastboot getvar current-slot"
2. Yes, you must mind what you flash though e.g if you have A as active on android 8 then update your device to android 9, B will be updated to android 9 and set to active while A remains on android 8 and set to inactive. If you flash android 9 boot.img into A slot then set it to active, it wont boot cause boot.img from android 9 can't be used on android 8
