We already created a detailed guide on how to resolve invalid IMEI issue on MTK devices at https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-116.html but some Android 6 and 7 (Marshmallow & Nougat) users have complained about most of the methods there not working for them. This guide should help resolve it.

Warning! It is illegal to change your IMEI from the original (on the back) to another so you are entirely responsible for how you choose to use this guide

Steps on how to fix invalid IMEI on an MTK android device using Tool Hero

Follow the steps below to fix invalid IMEI on a mediatek android phone using Tool Hero apk

• Download and Install Tool hero (formerly known as Mobile Uncle)  
  
• Launch the app then grant superuser permission if requested
  
• In the homescreen of Tool hero app, select IMEI
  
• You should see two boxes labeled "IMEI 1" and "IMEI 2", wait for about 5 secs for the interface to load properly
  
• Input the correct IMEIs (on the back of the phone after taking out the battery) and click Modify
  
• The app will request that you share it before you can proceed, proceed to share (you can share to a dummy group chat on whatsapp)
  
• Once successfully shared, return back to the app and select modify one more time
  
• The app will request to restart the device, select OK
  
• Your invalid IMEI problem should be resolved once the phone restarts

when i try to use tool hero it gives me the following error:
Modify serial number feature is not available.

I think you're trying to write SN different from the phone's original SN.
