patch boot from your backup using magisk @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-21427.html
On it. Hope we finish tonight (the team will be on break tomorrow).
(16-01-2021, 11:08 PM)Detective_Khalifah Done. I've unlocked bootloader and flashed patched boot.img (via fastboot). I have this question before we proceed: What about custom recovery? Thought it'd go before rooting, actually. Though all I find on Hovatek is a Philz not TWRP, everyone's favorite. After unlocking bootloader, phone rebooted like 3 times, all the while showing the "Orange State" message:
Thanks!

Tapping on "Repair", and re-attempting on "System Update", didn't turn out anything besides "Network error, please check network.
Current Version: V5755", as it always does https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-377...#pid207632
(18-01-2021, 10:34 AM)X3non OTA / system update doesn't work on gionee devices once you root the device, might be once you unlock bootloader (not sure). you'll keep getting the network error. you can only flash firmware using spft in such an event
(18-01-2021, 04:41 PM)Detective_Khalifah GN5001S did. What's next? TWRP porting? Thanks once again.

the purpose of the thread has been achieved, ie backup and root gionee m6
if you need twrp, use the porting tool @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-21839.html and if you encounter problems, create a new thread for it
(20-01-2021, 02:01 AM)Detective_Khalifah Ported TWRP worked when I booted, limited as the functionality was. I think I'll pass on flashing it this time; there were many "Storage N" partitions, "/data" was encrypted. Haven't attempted flashing anything with it, to give a good review, especially since I hadn't even flashed it -- would have after unlocking bootloader, if I knew about having to wipe "/data" again to achieve an operational custom recovery. Not now, when I'm in.
(20-01-2021, 11:06 AM)X3non create a new thread for this, in the new thread, attach fstab from both twrp and your stock recovery
to get fstab file, unpack the recovery using android image kitchen from xda forum
recovery.fstab will be found at /ramdisk/etc/
