Hello. I need to backup the ROM of, and (Magisk) root a Gionee M6 device; I searched "Gionee M6", and one of the guides I found has a lot of complaints of folks bricking their devices -- https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-17423.html
There's just a lot of posts besides that one, expressing users dismay at this device's breaking during the process - almost none of them in the least encouraging.
I'd like to work on backing up the ROM first, then work my way rooting it with Magisk. How do I do it? Could we make an updated guide on rooting this device. Something to do with "secure boot", "verified boot", "DA file" & "ROM dump".
These are the specs:

Android version: 6.0
Build number:
[SW VERSION]
M6_0103_V5755
[HW VERSION]
M6_Mainboard_Q0
CPU Frequency: 1950 Mhz
cPU model: AArch64 Processor rev 2 (aarch64)
Kernel version: 3.18.22
Model number: GIONEE M6
RAM: 4.00 GB
ROM: 64.00 GB
System version: amigo3.5.0

I need pointers. Thanks!

I'm getting a "USB Device Not Recognized." error on my Windows 10 PC.
Additional details: When I booted into recovery mode, I saw this:
Android Recovery
GIONEE/M6/GiONEE_BBL7515A
6.0/MRA58K/1471263848
user/release-keys
Use volume up/down and power.
------------------------------------------------------------
Reboot system now
Reboot to bootloader
Apply update from ADB
Apply update from SD card
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Backup user data
Restore user data
Root integrity check
Mount /system
View recovery logs
Power off
uart log switch

Try as I did, pressing the power and up button, only the down key worked. Had to hold down power key to reboot the device.
Is there any specific set of drivers I need for this make and model? Installing the driver from the device - displayed as an option when phone is connected via USB - didn't help.

(12-01-2021, 07:05 PM)Detective_Khalifah I'm getting a "USB Device Not Recognized." error on my Windows 10 PC.
Additional details: ...

This is what I've got on Device Manager (2 attached images):

Don't know why I still can't link attached files in a post or change view to/from source, add link,... Most of the features on my Hovatek profile gone. Hope it's not something serious.
They're signed drivers I updated today using Driver Booster; they were indicated 'FAULTY'.

the link to the driver needed (vcom preloader) is included in both links above

uninstall all mtk and vcom related drivers using the guide @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-7660.html
reinstall vcom preloader from the requirements section in any of the links in the previous post

Report:
I uninstalled what I could find labeled "MTK..." and uninstalled using USBDeview as the linked article guided; proceeded to install Auto Mediatek USB VCOM Drivers Signed (all MT**** devices) https://mega.nz/#!3h8BSY5J!0sfvyru6Hl6Fs...68L4rjSGNk from https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-16640.html
After restarting, I got an error (error - SPFT after Deview) when I tried readback in SPFT; installed the signed driver again, and when I tried readback in SPFT, I got "USB Device not recognized" error yet
(Android Phone hid-before deview) is a shot of some probable conflict I saw in Device Manager --
Gionee Android Composite ADB Interface; 25/02/2014; Driver Version - 1.2.1.0
Gionee Android Composite ADB Interface; 04/08/2015; Driver Version - 2.6.6.0

you don't need adb drivers when using spft, only vcom preloader
your screenshot after using deview still shows mtk vcom, you should have nothing related to mtk or vcom after using deview
after installing the driver, launch device manager (don't enable hidden devices)
switch off the phone and connect the phone to the pc without holding any buttons
what does device manager (ports and lpt) detect the device as?

if you still have unknown device, then try using a different usb cable or port or pc

That's because "Ports (COM & LPT) after Deview.png" is a screenshot I took after uninstalling "MTK" drivers in USBDeview, and installing signed drivers from link you gave.

I've tried different cable. Next would be a different PC. Will redo the process and report ASAP.

Nothing. It appears to be scanning hardware changes, but nothing shows afterwards in the Device Manager; "Unknown Device" or a name, nothing new appears in Device Manager.
Edit: It was fast before, but I saw it now:
This is what appears fast and disappears as quick -- M6 swiped.png
