I have a MediaTek device (Tecno Spark 8 Pro) currently running stock Android 11. There is no official Android 12 update available for this device.
I used the online builder on the Hovatek forum to create a custom OrangeFox Recovery. The process required me to submit my device's specific boot.img file (from Android 11), touchscreen driver information, and screen resolution.
However, in the builder's options, the selection for "Android Version" did not include Android 11. Therefore, I selected Android 12 as the target platform for the OrangeFox build. The recovery image was successfully generated based on my Android 11 kernel and drivers, but built against the OrangeFox codebase for Android 12.
My technical question is:
What are the specific risks and potential points of failure when flashing an OrangeFox Recovery that is built for the Android 12 platform, but uses a kernel (boot.img) and hardware drivers from an Android 11 environment, onto a device that permanently runs Android 11?
