Is it necessary to flash a Custom signed vbmeta to flash a GSI system image?

I once flashed a custom signed vbmeta before flashing a magisk boot image...but then I re-installed my stock firmware
The bootloader is still unlocked..

So what should I do then? just straight to flashing gsi or first have to flash a vbmeta file?

and what are the commands to flash GSI?

Flash a GSI in fastboot using the commands
fastboot erase system
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot -w
Flash a custom signed vbmeta, then flash a magisk_patched boot.img

Don't forget that fastboot erase system
And fastboot flash system system.img will not work if u are using android 10 above
U have to boot to fastbootd mode before that command can be effective
