Successfully downloladed the modified fastboot. Thanks, X3non.
Now, even though I have the modified fastboot folder on my desktop (Linux Mint 20.1) and the terminal is in that folder, I get a permission denies anytime I begin a command with dot-slash (./). No difference if I try it as root. ADB devices shows the device. I allowed the devide to connect to my computer, USB debigging is enabled, but I'm stumped. fastboot commands without the (./) return nothing or "waiting for devices". Sorry to be such a bother. Appreciate any help. thanks.

Got ./fastboot to execute, but no result returned. Same for all other fastboot commands, except "waiting for devices" message and nothing for several minutes.
There was a system update yesterday (involuntary). Just puzzled at the lack of response. The tablet is set on "usb charging". Wondering if I have overlooked anything, but if so, I can't spot it. Appreciate any suggestions to solve this.
Thanks,
Shneor

As you saw, "waiting for devices" means no other fastboot command will work else will work

You were in developer mode, iwth USB debugging enabled, and in bootloader mode?

Yes. And allowed access by this computer to the tablet. It is a Teclast P20HD, running Android 10.

Never mind, successfully unlocked device with info in page 6 or 7.

Many thanks!
Now for a TWRP and rom...

Help with fastboot...

I am trying to run the modified fastboot referenced in this thread to unlock the bootloader on my Teclast M40 N6H9:

. I have tried it on my gentoo linux 2.6 *and* on ubuntu 16.04.3
. When i run: "./fastboot devices" it simply return with no output
. Running: "lsusb" on both systems return the following (among other unrelated things):
"Bus 002 Device 004: ID 1782:4003 Spreadtrum Communications Inc. Unisoc Phone"
. I ran: "usermod -aG plugdev root"
. I am running as root, so I should have access to the USB devices anyway
. Running "adb devices" returns:
List of devices attached
88593033650033 device
. Running: "ls -l ./fastboot" returns:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 rwk rwk 9158624 Mar 22 2018 ./fastboot
. Running: "md5sum ./fastboot" returns:
432c1d05e0dfee3de6dc813d82a7b99c ./fastboot

What else can I do to troubleshoot this?

I just discovered the problem. From:
https://android.stackexchange.com/questi...on-problem
"If you want to switch to fastboot mode have to boot boot to bootloader mode by executing adb reboot bootloader."
I ran: "adb reboot bootloader" (and also killed the adb daemon, for good measure) and now fastboot seems to work!

I don't recall seeing anything about this in the instructions at: https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-32287.html

Am I missing something?
