if u most use twrp u need to edit your twrp.flags on have system .img partition to enable you flash gsi image which can only be flashed to system.image partition (because gsi only contains system.img unless u are talking about custom rom)
this line bellow need to be inluded inside the twrp.flags
to locate the so called twrp.flags,unpack your twrp and go to ramdisk/system/etc
In some case the gsi may be bigger than the available space for system is either u delete the product image which is very risky on xiaomi devices or u use fastbootd to delete logical and flash gsi
