So I keep seeing that I need to extract a PAC file in order to start working on custom recovery.  However there has been ZERO mention of where these are being found.

I contacted Blu today and they refuse to share the firmware files, so I guess I'm stuck taking my chances with a similar device or having someone share the PAC files for a Blu M8L tablet.  This uses a Unisoc UMS312 Quad Core.  I can do the work myself and will share the results, but in order to get anywhere, I need to achieve a temporary root, find a firmware file, or risk bricking my tablet by using the firmware from a similar device.  I know how to boot the device without flashing stock partitions, I just cannot get the firmware.

Since what you need is the FDL 1&2 for backup, you can check these two @ https://www.needrom.com/download/blu-m8l-2022-m0220w/

If these will work even to boot a semi functional TWRP, that is perfect.  I looked into the tablet a bit more and what I have is a M0176, however I cannot determine if it is M0176WW or M0176UU

I've done a bit more research and it's a Unisoc SC9863A chip in this tablet.  Even a temporary root exploit would suffice to get this started

You could use the pac file of a different variant to backup your own firmware. Don't flash the pac file or use its files

I attempted to make a backup (with this guide - https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-31800.html) using a M0174 pac file as it was the only one available.  I did NOT flash any files, but now the tablet flashes the splash screeen endlessly and will not boot into fastboot, bootloader, or system. Any ideas?

The model I used the PAC file from is the closest variant firmware available and uses the same SOC as my tablet.

Did the backup complete before you started seeing the splash screen?
