I have the Tecno Camon 19, android 13, a Mediatek device with build number: CI6-H6917ABC-T-GL-231121V478.

I've unlocked the bootloader and now I intend to install a pre-rooted GSI, but first I have to disable dm-verity. Can I do this by flashing an empty vbmeta.img, or it must be the vbmeta.img from the stock firmware? I don't have access to the stocj firmware.

You can flash an empty vbmeta, but I recommend backup the firmware first in case GSI doesn't like it.

Thanks for your suggestion. I've been skeptical about using a blank vbmeta because like you said I can't be sure the phone would permit that.

And another problem is that I've tried to backup the firmware with MTK Client both on Windows 11 and Linux, but it just doesn't work (All MTK and fastboot drivers installed, maybe there's something else I'm missing).

I even tried to load a rooted GSI using DSU Loader so that I'd be able to use fastboot to backup the firmware, but the phone refused to boot into the GSI rather it kept booting into the stock firmware.

I don't think mtk client supports this chipset.
This GSI you flashed, has anybody using this same model confirmed it works?

Thanks, I was actually able to find the firmware online and root the phone, then disable vbmeta and flash GSIs. Only that the brightness is very low, I'm still looking for a fix
