Thanks to you guys I have my tecno y2 running again. 

The twrp I was provided with in the link below works great (except Adb, and the necessary code lines needed in default.prop already exist. Adb SIDELOAD works tho)

you can try the twrp @ [ Login / Register to download free]
if the twrp above boots then you could try using adb while in twrp OR use twrp file manager to set the necessary permission


However, I was wondering if there is any way to update to a more recent version of twrp.

no updates available for this twrp, at least none that i'm aware of

That would be down to a re-port of a higher version
