I have an update for magisk zip indicating on my magisk manager.
When I click to install, I have the below options to select from:
1. Download zip only
2. Select and patch a file
3. Direct install (recommended

Kindly advice how best to update this on my rooted device without going thru twrp recovery.

Select Direct Install.

It should flash the magisk update without any problem.

You need to reboot afterwards.

Thank you guys for the above suggestion. But the direct install didn't work. 
Who has experience this before should please advice on on what needs to be done. Thank you in advance

you need to explain further what you mean by "didn't work". if there's an error message then be sure to attach a screenshot of the error message

The suggested procedure still did not work I mean. I initially thought it was becos of me converting to system app that caused it.  I have converted to to user app now still failed.
I just opened my magisk manager only to still a need for update.

Kindly disregard my previous update before editing this.

Observation: during flashing after downloading the zip, it does not complete the process or I don't see done before my device are reboot

Retry the direct install process, if the problem persist then you’ll need to reinstall the magisk app and patch boot.

you need to rephrase your problem so we can understand what you mean
also attach screenshot or error message and screenshot of what you see when you launch magisk manager
