It's all similar, magisk method requires flashing patched.img so also supersu method require flashing custom recovery.
If you prefer the custom recovery method then Port TWRP using the tool @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-21839.html
Download superSu @ https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/super...271822.zip and flash via custom recovery.
