The Tecno W5 is an MT6737M powered Android phone running on Android 6 (Marshmallow)

How do I root a Tecno W5 Android phone?

1. Download TWRP for Tecno W5 ported by Team Hovatek at https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4S-Z72...5HZGM/view
   
2. Setup ADB and Fastboot on the PC using the guide at https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-588.html
   
3. Extract and copy the TWRP recovery.img into the same folder as the fastboot.exe and adb.exe
   
4. Unlock the Bootloader of the Tecno W5 using the guide at https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-16599.html
   
5. Download SuperSU 2.76.zip at https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B_-waNKLv...t=download
   
6. Copy SuperSU.zip to both the phone’s SD card and internal storage
   
7. Connect the phone to the PC via USB cord while switched On and boot it into Fastboot (as instructed in the Bootloader unlock guide)
   
8. When the phone enters Fastboot, flash the TWRP recovery image to the phone by typing the command below then pressing Enter

9. Once recovery is flashed in fastboot, hold the Volume up + Power button and don’t release till the phone reboots into recovery
   
10. In TWRP, if you get a prompt asking you to swipe to allow modification of the System partition, tap KEEP READ ONLY
    
11. If TWRP offers to root the phone, select NO
    
12. In TWRP recovery, tap Install
    
13. Navigate to the location of the SuperSU2.76.zip and select it
    
14. Swipe to confirm flashing of SuperSU.zip and wait till flashing is complete
    
15. Reboot the phone normally
    
16. Confirm Root by installing and running Root Checker @ https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai...heck&hl=en

Am very happy with the post finally the forum gives up how to root the W5 and am lucky to be the first one to root my W5 using the forum.
