Has anyone rooted the 8T? Or similar?

It is Android 10, with the Unisoc SC9832E processor.

I'm still awaiting delivery of my iPlay 8T. Unlocking the bootloader, using that method, will be the first thing I try.

That unlock procedure worked fine. The procedure failed to mention that the device needs to be in bootloader mode for the modified fast boot to work. The dynamically linked modified fastboot worked fine on my Gentoo.

Android Build Number: T802_V1.0_20210308

T-Mobile SIM will not work.
No compass.
No 5GHz WiFi

Now I'll try TWRP and Magisk.

I spoke too soon, when I do "adb reboot recovery". I get the message "No command".

Some sites recommend a factory reset, so I did that from

Settings->System->Advanced->Reset options->Erase all data(factory reset)

Same problem. So I reflashed the official firmware (iPlay8T(T802)-EN-20210115.pac). no
change. An finally another factory reset.

It would be nice to have a working recovery again.

UPDATED: When at "No command", press and hold power, press VolUp once, then the device enters Recovery mode. An extra step, but one I can deal with.

So no way to fix it? Just live with it?

you mean to fix the extra step to go from "no command" screen into recovery mode screen? or are you referring to something else?

I mean to never get into te "No command" state. Never seen it before, clearly it denotes something broken.

Nothing is broken, it's the normal procedure to prevent users from booting directly into recovery mode and selecting an option such as factory reset by mistake
