[Custom ROM] Make a backup of ROM of Gionee GN5001S (before root and custom recovery flash)
(22-11-2018, 11:24 PM)Detective_Khalifah Hello. I got an old Gionee GN5001S which comes with Android 5 (Marshmallow), but mine has Android 7.1 - custom ROM installed;it has GApps flashed and uses the CyanogenMod file manager. My search results of a firmware only showed an OTA update (.zip) but not the Stock ROM of the model (unlike the case was with GN5001).
I need to root it and install a custom recovery (preferably TWRP) but not before backing up a flash-able (TWRP or SP Flash tool flashable) file ROM currently installed on it -- since I cannot risk rooting and flashing TWRP without a stock ROM on standby.Thank you.
- Drivers, software tools and a step-by-step instruction would be useful if I can get it all soon.

(23-11-2018, 07:40 PM)Detective_Khalifah I made the backup, but 'boot' and 'recovery' images are the same size: 16,777,216 bytes - 16,384 kb (16.0 MB)

thats the size of the boot and recovery partition on your phone -- there's nothing wrong with it

Did you get any particular error message?
Try
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Try
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
It went like this:
Downloading 'boot.img' OKAY [0.844s]
booting FAILED <remote: 'unknown command'>
Finished. Total timd: 0.859s
I can't flash the recovery without guarantee of a working ROM dump to flash in case things go wrong
