It would&#8217;ve been understandable if this happened once a while but a constant tanking (dropping without rising)\u00a0from 3G \/ 4G to Edge is not fun in any way.<\/p>\n<h3>Why does my 3G \/ 4G keep dropping to Edge<\/h3>\n<p>Possible reasons you could be experiencing this are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Poor signal reception (network): The reception in your area might be poor or down<\/li>\n<li>Surfing via a proxy: Using proxy APNs \/ tweaks could affect what signal your phone gets (data capping)<\/li>\n<li>Phone settling for stability: Your MTK Android phone tends to settle for the more stable signal strength and might take longer (than you would want) to refresh<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How do I revert to 3G or 4G from Edge?<\/h3>\n<p>Once the 3G or 4G signal is strong \/ stable enough, you should resume receiving it. If this however takes too long then you could speed it up by enabling then disabling Airplane mode under Settings &gt; More &gt; Airplane mode. Soft rebooting (restarting) and Hard rebooting (taking out the battery) could help. You should also consider changing your location.<\/p>\n<h3>How can I stop the constant tanks from 3G \/ 4G to Edge?<\/h3>\n<p>One technique that works for me is to set the phone to WCDMA only instead of GSM\/WCDMA (since Edge is useless to me anyway).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Warning! Do not do this in an area without 3G or 4G as it would mean no signal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>There are two ways you could do this:<\/p>\n<h3>1. Under Mobile networks settings<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Navigate to Settings<\/li>\n<li>Tap More<\/li>\n<li>Tap Mobile networks<\/li>\n<li>Tap 3G service<\/li>\n<li>Tap Network Mode<\/li>\n<li>Set to WCDMA only<\/li>\n<li>Your signal will go off then come back on<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hovatek.com\/blog\/bpyeki\/uploads\/2015\/10\/how-to-set-an-mtk-android-phone-to-WCDMA-only.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2612\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hovatek.com\/blog\/bpyeki\/uploads\/2015\/10\/how-to-set-an-mtk-android-phone-to-WCDMA-only.png\" alt=\"how to set an MTK Android phone to WCDMA only\" width=\"320\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>2. In MTK Engineering mode<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Enter MTK Engineering mode.
