So naturally, unlocking the bootloader was the first step. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Disclaimer:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This will <strong>wipe your data<\/strong> \u2013 back up everything first.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You may void your warranty.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proceed at your own risk.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Requirements:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A <strong>Mi account<\/strong> (must be signed in on your phone).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>PC with Windows OS<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>USB cable<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Internet connection<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mi Unlock Tool<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/xiaomitools.com\/mi-unlock-tool-en\">https:\/\/xiaomitools.com\/mi-unlock-tool-en<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I started by doing the usual prep:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Created a Mi Account<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I went to <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/account.xiaomi.com\/\">https:\/\/account.xiaomi.com\/<\/a> to register. You can also do this directly from your phone if you prefer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Enabled Developer Options<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In <em>Settings &gt; About phone<\/em>, I tapped the <strong>MIUI version<\/strong> repeatedly (7 times) until I saw the &#8220;You are now a developer&#8221; message.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Turned on USB Debugging and OEM Unlocking<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Found both under <em>Settings &gt; Additional settings &gt; Developer options<\/em>. I made sure both were enabled.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Added my Mi Account to Mi Unlock Status<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Still in Developer Options, I went to <strong>Mi Unlock status<\/strong> and added my account.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Important note: I was on <strong>mobile data<\/strong>, not Wi-Fi, because a lot of folks say Wi-Fi can cause binding issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">STEPS TO TURN ON USB DEBUGGING<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hovatek.com\/blog\/bpyeki\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Untitled-design.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13025\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">STEPS TO TURN ON OEM UNLOCKING<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hovatek.com\/blog\/bpyeki\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Untitled-design-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13026\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I turned off the phone and booted into Fastboot mode by holding down Power + Volume Down until the Fastboot mode logo showed up, I connected the device to the PC, and launched the Mi Unlock Tool, logged in with my account. It detected my phone just fine. I hit \u201cUnlock,\u201d only to be greeted with this message:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cYou need to wait 168 hours before unlocking your device.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yep. 168 hours. That\u2019s <strong>7 whole days<\/strong>. No option to skip. No workaround. Just a hard wall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignfull size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"826\" height=\"568\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hovatek.com\/blog\/bpyeki\/uploads\/2025\/05\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-05-13-at-11.27.08_9d7434ea.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13027\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s the kicker: if I logged out of my Mi account or reset the phone, the countdown would reset. So I basically turned my Redmi 10A into a sacred relic, didn\u2019t touch anything I didn\u2019t absolutely need to. I even avoided switching from mobile data to Wi-Fi because some people online reported issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally  the wait was over. I ran the Mi Unlock Tool again, and this time, it just\u2026 unlocked in less than 5mins. No drama. No additional error messages. Just a clean success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that was it. Bootloader unlocked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignfull size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"812\" height=\"559\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hovatek.com\/blog\/bpyeki\/uploads\/2025\/05\/mi_unlock_success.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13028\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What I Learned <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Xiaomi\u2019s bootloader unlock system isn\u2019t technically difficult, it\u2019s just <strong>annoyingly time-gated<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The 168-hour wait<\/strong> is real, and there\u2019s no skipping it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don\u2019t log out of your Mi account or reset your phone once the countdown starts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure you\u2019re using <strong>mobile data<\/strong>, not Wi-Fi, when adding your account to Mi Unlock Status.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They warned me, but I thought, <em>\u201cIt\u2019s just unlocking the bootloader, how bad could it be?\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turns out, they weren\u2019t kidding, everything was wiped.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Back up your data.
